Day 16/100 Ted Talks — START WITH WHY.

I’m watching 100 Ted Talks in 100 days and tracking the result to see how much it will effect my state of mind & work. You can check out the details and my very first check in HERE.

“We are drawn to leaders and organizations that are good at communicating what they believe. Their ability to make us feel like we belong, to make us feel special, safe and not alone is part of what gives them the ability to inspire us.” -Simon Sinek

“People don’t buy WHAT you do, they buy WHY you do it.”

“For values or guiding principles to be truly effective they have to be verbs. It’s not “integrity,” it’s “always do the right thing.” It’s not “innovation,” it’s “look at the problem from a different angle.” Articulating our values as verbs gives us a clear idea — we have a clear idea of how to act in any situation.”

What do I believe?! Where will I start? There’s alot about community and self-improvement as an open and vulnerable expression in a hyper transperent way to maybe create value for others while forcing myself to change habits.

But today I am CONSUMED with relaunching a cryptocurrency. It looks as if I’ll be doing it with a Dev Wizard partner which is a MASSIVE value add, but I want to make sure I am super clear about what kind of culture, what core BELIEF, what the WHY is going to be. The WHY of SHipple, that drove my fascination and my exploration and allowed me and our community to gain a little bit of momentum was around the belief that any community could create its own (i hesitate to use this word but it’s too accurate not to) currency. Bitcoin has value of because its secure and requires some “work” to attain and its got network effect. SHipple was all about exploring how that works and how it might be re-interpreted and re-shaped with a cultural focus. We didnt mean to but we started building a religion. Just look a Bitcoin maximalists for another example.

So we want to launch a MEME token,

— Meme, an element of a culture or system of behavior that may be considered to be passed from one individual to another by non-genetic means, especially imitation.

The issue is the regulatory environment we find ourselves in. If I want to play in the big leagues with established players it becomes a far less simple proposition.

To be excessively transparent, if it’s not going to have real world value (even potentially maybe someday) then I don’t think i care about it. It becomes un-interesting to me. There is suddenly far less WHY there. The belief engine chokes, stutters, then peters out.

Now… all that’s left is to solve for that. There’s always a solve. There’s always a way to thread the needle.

Anyway, this ted talk is epic and is in a tiny list of maybe 3–5 talks that have inspired me as much.
